James Reich’s 2013 novel Bombshell (Soft Skull Press) continues to cause ripples with its prescient fictionalization of the Chernobyl disaster, Ukrainian feminist resistance, and eco-terrorism. On June 8, Inna Sukhenko (University of Helsinki) will be a guest at the Università di Bologna’s conference “The United States in the Anthropocene.” Dr. Sukhenko will address the conference on Situating Feminism Literary Extremities within Narrating U.S. Nuclear History: Intermedial Ecocritical Perspective on Anti-Nuclear Activism in U.S. Nuclear Fiction. Bombshell features prominently in this discourse, not least in its use of nonfiction within a fictional frame, and the character of Valerie Solanas, author of the notorious SCUM Manifesto.
